ELECTRIC, a Workshop with Apparatjik
Posted by michael | May 31st, 2011From 23th to 27th of May 2011, Sonice Development was invited to join the workshop ‘ELECTRIC’ at Burg Giebichenstein, University of Art and Design in Halle. An amazing recipy for 5 days: car-parts, the band Apparatjik, SOME art-design-magazine, Proessor Sven Voelker, a handful of extremly motivated students and us. Alltogether we were looking for an interpretation of Moholy Nagy’s artwork ‘Light-Space-Modulator’. Professor Sven Voelker and his Students release the SOME-Magazine twice a year. The next issue will deal with the topic ‘ELECTRIC’ and show the workshop and it’s results. Here you see a preview.
Magne Furholmen and Jonas Bjerre from Apparatjik gave a short lecture on the first day. Reporting about their ways of working together as a band, about their gig at Neue Nationalgallerie Berlin and about quantum physics.

Brainstorming, discussing, trying out and finally choosing the ways to go: We´ll build a rotopainter, a water-light-experiment-box, a complex shadow arrangement of car-parts and some poems.

‘Electric Dream’. “We’ll be together– together in electric dreams.”, quote taken from the movie-picture ‘Bladerunner’. Machine-parts having the ambition of being beautiful and human.

‘Multi Aqua Dimensionator’ a kinetic Light-Sculpure after Moholy-Nagy’s Light-Space-Modulator. The sculpture, its shadow and and its reflection show a synchronised multiplication of the moving water. Like a magnifier it gives us the chance to see.
Freedom of Speech
Posted by michael | December 27th, 2010
On Saturday, December 11th, we waded through mud up to our ankels to prepare the promised Freedom of Speech wall. During our trip to Sweden we learned our lessons about printing under bad weather conditions. So we brought a fully taped and professionally trashbag-wrapped Facadeprinter with us. It handled the snow much better than our feet the wet shoes and so we came up with a trouble free 1.4m to 12m lettering. It somehow gave a certain rush to see the word “FREE” growing dot after dot on this wall so close to the former inner German border, opposite the newly constructed building of the Bundesnachrichtendienst (German intelligence service).
A handfull of die-hard spectators and friends welcomed every letter and finally we toasted to the “fragile freedom” with hot wine punch. Thanks for the pleasant afternoon to everone at the set, the writers whose pieces we painted over and Artitude e.V. for the permission.
Wishes for the coming year?
Write them on the wall.
All the best for 2011!

Colors
Posted by michael | July 13th, 2009
The 13 colours we use regularly each have different qualities with varying characteristics in UV-stability, brightness and removability. We conducted empirical testing on different surfaces and documented the results. The photo illustrates a set of 13 on concrete and on concrete painted with white primer 5 minutes after the application.
